What is Rehab?
Rehab or rehabilitation is a structured program or facility where those addicted to drugs or alcohol can get treatment to stop using substances. It is facility that teaches people how to live life on life terms so that the use of an unmanageable substance becomes unnecessary.
Typically, patients enter detox where 24/7 medically supervised monitoring occurs to help individuals overcome the side effects associated with withdrawal. From there, patients may enter an inpatient or residential program where they will reside on site and receive continued monitoring, treatment, and therapy. The patient may then enter an outpatient program where the patient can go to treatment “part-time” and return home every day after treatment is completed.
Drug detox is the natural process of ridding a substance from the body. However, a professional drug detox program, also sometimes referred to as “medically managed withdrawal,” entails the use of a set of interventions (such as medications and other therapies) to safely manage the side effects that accompany quitting drugs.
Inpatient drug rehab is a live-in program where patients can receive supervised and highly structured care for drug and/or alcohol addiction from professionals. Find out what it is, and when you might need inpatient treatment.
